The list of uses for extra virgin coconut oil continues to grow. Weight loss, IBS, stress, dandruff and lice can all be relieved with this valuable oil.

Eating a diet containing coconut oil may lead to normal cholesterol levels, no cardiovascular disease, and normal body weight. It is described as "the healthiest oil on earth” by Dr Bruce Fife, a naturopathic doctor. High in fiber, minerals and vitamins, people from around the world seek its uses. A highly desirable food, also used in medicine, coconut oil is truly an extraordinary gift from above. According to the Coconut Research Center, Islanders in the Pacific believe it to be a cure-all for all illnesses.

Benefits of Coconut Oil

Around the world, coconut oil has a variety of health benefits, including:

  • improving digestion
  • helping bowel function

  • relief of hemorrhoid pain and discomfort
  • removal of lice
  • aiding in weight loss
  • relief of rash
  • relief of sore throat
  • relief of upset stomach
  • relief of inflammation
  • tissue repair
  • protection against osteoporosis
  • aid in immune system function
  • improvement in calcium and magnesium absorption for strong teeth and bones
  • support in thyroid function

  • help with premature aging

Coconut Oil and Weight Loss

With its short and medium chains of fatty acids coconut oil is extremely beneficial in removing excess weight. It increases the body's metabolism taking stress off the pancreas enabling the body to shed weight. It is easily digested and supports good bowel function, an important part of ridding the body of toxins. If weight loss is desired this could be a healthy alternative to medications or surgery.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Coconut Oil

Coconut oil contains microbial properties which deals with a number of fungi, parasites, and other bacteria-causing indigestion. When taking coconut oil internally, the digestive system will improve preventing problems such as improper bowel function and irritable bowel syndrome. For most people, regularly consuming coconut oil will ward off bouts of diarrhea and/or constipation. Bowel movements will begin to regulate.

Stress Relief, Dandruff, and Head Lice

Coconut oil is a safe alternative skin care product. With more chemicals being placed in skin care products, and food for that matter, it is hard to remain fully organic. By using 100% organic raw extra-virgin coconut oil, the benefits are endless. For stress relief and/or hair care, gently massage oil into scalp to release mental fatigue. Give it a try as a conditioner. Coconut oil ensures the hair is free from dandruff, head lice, and lice eggs while helping repair damaged hair. When used on dry flaky skin or dry scalp, the oil acts as a moisturizer.

Natural Cures with Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is non-toxic with no harmful side effects. Try making coconut oil the choice for cooking to increase daily consumption. The recommended dosages for health benefits depend on individuals and the brand of oil. Be sure to consult your natural health care provider for specific directions and follow package directions. Natural cures are becoming more popular. Be sure to do research before opting for medication or surgery.

Nowhere do I see the fact that coconut oil, virgin or otherwise, contains almost solely saturated fat, which is detrimental to one's health and, in particular, those with arterial or cardiac issues.
